Mesut Ozil and Danny Welbeck showed signs of a promising partnership at Villa Park, according to Phil Neville.

The England international teed up Arsenal’s club-record signing for his first Premier League goal of the season in the 32nd minute against Aston Villa on Saturday.

Ozil returned the favour minutes later, as the Germany international fed Welbeck and the 23-year-old scored his first Arsenal goal since a £16m move to The Emirates on deadline day.

And former Manchester United defender Neville believes Ozil and Welbeck could form a potentially lethal partnership for the north London side this season.

Ozil and Welbeck put Liverpool in charge in the first half before Aly Cissokho netted an own goal to complete a crazy six minutes in Birmingham.

And former United defender Neville was pleased to see England international Welbeck open his Arsenal account.
