Mesut Ozil: Danny Welbeck makes the game simpler for Arsenal
Arsenal midfielder Mesut Özil heaps praise on Gunners team-mate Danny Welbeck after 3-0 win at Villa Park
Mesut Ozil has praised Danny Welbeck for making the game “simpler” for his new team-mates after the Arsenal striker impressed in a 3-1 victory at Aston Villa.
The England international created Ozil’s opener at Villa Park before the Arsenal playmaker turned provider to tee up Welbeck for his first Gunners goal since joining from Manchester United.
Things worked really well for him on Saturday and that’s why I’m pleased for him
And Ozil, who moved to The Emirates in a club-record £42.5m deal from Real Madrid in 2013, praised Welbeck for his all-round performance against the Birmingham side.
“I think when you assess [Welbeck’s] pass, it was really well timed,” Ozil told Arsenal’s website.
“He saw me and played me through to finish. I didn’t have to do that much because I was one-on-one against the goalkeeper and made sure that I stayed ice-cold in front of goal – that was that.
“When you analyse [Welbeck’s] game, you notice that he makes a lot of runs and knows where he needs to be. We’re pleased to have a striker like him here. He makes the game simpler for us through his runs and speed.
“[On Saturday] he proved again that he is very dangerous in front of goal and personally, I’m happy for him because in recent games, he missed a few chances. Things worked really well for him on Saturday and that’s why I’m pleased for him.”
