Novak Djokovic brought to an end Andy Murray’s US Open run after a 7-6 (7-1) 6-7 (1-7) 6-2 6-4 quarter-final victory over the British number one.

Elsewhere, Kei Nishikori beat Australian Open champion Stanislas Wawrinka in five sets, and Serena Williams and Ekaterina Makarova eased into the women’s semi-finals.
