Ozil & more: Twitter reacts as Welbeck joins Arsenal from Man United
Mesut Özil and Theo Walcott tweet their thoughts after Danny Welbeck joins Arsenal in a £16m deal from Manchester United
Danny Welbeck provided one of the biggest transfer stories on deadline day after the striker completed a £16m move to Arsenal from Manchester United on Monday night.
The 23-year-old England international has signed a long-term deal with the north London side, calling time on a six-year career in the United first-team after being deemed surplus to requirements.
Here is the best of the Twitter reaction from the professionals, past and present, in chronological order to Welbeck’s switch to north London.
Former Manchester United striker Michael Owen (@themichaelowen) believes Welbeck will prove to be a very good signing: “Arsenal have pulled off a very good signing in Welbeck. He’s young, English, fast and someone who Wenger can get more out of… People talk about a lack of goals but he’s hardly played as a striker at United. He will suit Arsenal.”
Arsenal striker Theo Walcott (@theowalcott) is thrilled to see his England team-mate move to The Emirates: “Welcome to @Arsenal Danny! #welcomewelbeck #COYG”
Jan Aage Fjortoft (@JanAageFjortoft) feels Welbeck shares similarities to some of Germany’s World Cup winners: “I like Welbeck. Had a good chat with him after a CL-game last season. Not your typical footballer…. Comes forward as an inteligent lad. Good attitude. A lad you hope will do well on the pitch. Reminds me of young German players”
QPR centre-half Rio Ferdinand (@rioferdy5) is thrilled for his former team-mate: “Welbeck is a top signing for arsenal. Good business done by them. If he gets that trust to be no.1 striker at AFC he will flourish & explode”
Arsenal captain Mikel Arteta (@m8arteta) is confident Welbeck will suit the Gunners: “Very happy yo welcome #DannyWelbeck to @Arsenal!He will fit very well in our style.Lets go for it now #Gunners!!”
Club-record signing Mesut Özil (@MesutOzil1088) is hoping that the new striker can score plenty of goals: “I’m glad to welcome you, Danny! wish you as much goals as possible!
Finally, Jack Wilshere posts a picture with the new signing: “Big welcome to my boy Welbz….great player for a great club! Another English lad! #Gooner”
