Partizan Belgrade

Milan Lukac Sharp from the outset especially with the pace to deal Tottenham posess. Not really tested for the most part. 5/10

Vladimir Volkov Struggled to cope with the pace of Townsend on more than one occasion, tried his best to get under the winger’s skin. Replaced by Petrovic in an effort to sure up their left hand side. 4

Miroslav Vulicevic Caused plenty of problems down the right flank in the first half. Less potent in the second half, but solid for the most part. 5

Lazar Cirkovic Quiet night for the centre-half, largely untroubled without starring. Replaced by Markovic with 20 minutes to go. 5

Branko Ilic Strong in defence, showing good discipline and patience to deal with everything Spurs threw at his side. Clever in attack creating a couple of big chances that weren’t maximised on. 6

Vojislav Stankovic Similar to Ilic, was obdurate in his role at the back, clearing up on anything that came his way. 6

Nikola Drincic Early deliveries at the set-piece were not up to the Montenegran’s usual standards but was everywhere for his side in both attack and defence. Worked tirelessly to create an opportunity for his side to take the lead. 7

Petar Grbic Intelligent work down the right-hand side, but should have done better with a superb chance early in the second half. Put the ball on a plate for his team-mates but they couldn’t capitalise. 6

Danilo Pantic Caused headaches for Naughton and Townsend down his left flank at times and got into some great positions. 5

Sasa Ilic Missed a good opportunity after a fine ball from Grbic and got in some good positions. Saw another chance fly over the bar from the edge of the area. Frustrating night for the skipper. 5

Danko Lazovic Caused a few problems had a guilt-edged chance at the start of the second half but was thwarted by Lloris. Hesitated when one-on-one but rather fortuitously won a corner. Worked tirelessly throughout in search of a goal. 7

Substitutes

Nemanja Petrovic Replaced Volkov after the defender struggled to cope with Townsend. Created a good chance that was wasted late on. 5

Sasa Markovic Made no real impact but worked hard as his side pushed for a winner. 5

Pedro Luka Got a yellow card for his troubles as he looked to get his way into the game with five minutes to go. 4

Tottenham Hotspur

Hugo Lloris Flapped on occasion but largely untroubled in the first half. Made a sharp save with his legs in the first half. 5

Jan Vertonghen Had the license to push forward and was a presence in attacking areas. Put a shift in defence as well quashing threats with ease. 7

Federico Fazio Quick to pounce on any dangers in-and-around the penalty area. Agile despite his big frame. Misjudged a long throw which fortunately for him was not capitalised on. 6

Ben Davies Made some decent overlapping runs down the left but lacked protection and was left exposed and out of position at times. 5

Kyle Naughton Operated primarily as a support role to Townsend, distributing well and allowing the winger to push forward down the right. Got forward himself well at times to support the attacking moves. 7

Andros Townsend (Man of the match) Was sharp in attack early on, making driving runs well. The majority of Tottenham’s positive play went through Townsend as he looked to create a decisive chance. Left frustrated at times by the physicality of the Partizan defenders, particularly Volkov. Swapped for Lamela as Spurs pushed for a goal. 7

Nabil Bentaleb Saved his side’s blushes early on with a sharp clearance after Fazio’s misjudgement. Lost the ball himself on occasion and tried to assist with the attacking movement of Tottenham. 5

Benjamin Stambouli Lost the ball in the centre of the park needlessly on a couple of occasions but worked hard to rectify his mistakes. Almost found Kane with a brilliant pass but the hosts’s defenders were wise to the play. Solid effort on his first start for the club before being replaced by Capoue with 20 minutes to go. 5

Paulinho Plenty of industry from the Brazilian, dropped into a defensive role with ease to allow the likes of Naughton to push forward at times. Still managed the occasional attacking move but largely played a support/clear up role. Replaced by Soldado on the hour mark. 6

Aaron Lennon Sharp down the left flank, using his pace well but found his options were limited in the first half. Overall a frustating night for the pacey wideman. 5

Harry Kane Looked a threat with the ball at his feet, turning sharply and beating the defender with ease. Hit the crossbar with an early effort but was left frustrated at times by the lack of service in the first 45. An off night for the player overall. 5

Substitutes

Erik Lamela Replaced Townsend on the hour mark. Dangerous from the outset, spraying the ball to the flanks to start an attacking move, only for Kane to squander the chance. Caused a world of problems for the Belgrade defenders, bossing the midfield. 7

Roberto Soldado Came on for Paulinho with half an hour left. Put a dangerous cross in for Kane with his first touches of the match which unfortunately came to nothing. Gave his side a lift with his inclusion. 6

Etienne Capoue Sured up the midfield for Spurs to allow the likes of Lamela and Soldado to press for a winner. Couldn’t manufacture a chance for his side to nick a winner though. 5
