Patrice Evra says he chose to quit Manchester United for “personal” reasons after he joined Juventus this summer.

The France international won five Premier League titles during eight successful seasons at Old Trafford but left the club shortly after penning a contract extension.

However, the 33-year-old insists that his own feelings – and not the arrival of Luke Shaw – prompted his decision to leave the club.

“I went away from Manchester because of personal problems, and the only team that I wanted was Juventus,” Evra told JTV.

“They are a club which have a history and important goals. [Antonio] Conte had called me many times to convince me, now I’m at Juventus and I’m happy.

“Here I can continue with a big club, I saw no differences compared to United.”
