Paul Scholes has hailed the “fantastic” impact that Brendan Rodgers has had since taking over at Liverpool two years ago.

The Northern Irishman guided the Reds back into the Champions League last season after they finished second in the Premier League and just two points behind champions Manchester City.

The style of play he’s adopted is exciting to watch

And former Manchester United midfielder Scholes feels that the Reds could be set for an exciting run in Europe’s elite club competition this season.

“Liverpool are the dark horse of the competition this year,” Scholes told ITV.

“Brendan Rodgers has done a fantastic job. The style of play he’s adopted is exciting to watch and the players seem to have taken to him.

“I feel they will do well with the players they have. The big advantage they have is a home crowd. Anfield is always a hostile place to go, which is something Manchester City lack.”

Liverpool kick off their Group B campaign against Bulgarian minnows Ludogorets at Anfield on Tuesday night.
