Paul Scholes admits that he was sad to see Danny Welbeck leave Manchester United to join Arsenal last week.

The 23-year-old striker signed a five-year deal with the Gunners on transfer deadline day after being deemed surplus to requirements at Old Trafford.

I am sorry to see Danny go to Arsenal. He will be a good signing for them

Welbeck was brought through the youth system at United and had been at the club since he was eight years old.

And former Red Devils midfielder Scholes feels that Welbeck, who scored both goals in England’s win over Switzerland on Monday, will be a great signing for the north London club.

“I was pleased for Danny that he got two goals after eight days in which his career has changed in a big way,” Scholes told the Independent.

“I have said before that, as a Manchester United fan, I am sorry to see Danny go to Arsenal. He will be a good signing for them.

“He gives every team he plays for something different, and never more so than on the counter-attack when he covers that pitch from end-to-end at an incredible speed.”
