Dirk Kuyt has revealed his delight at seeing Liverpool return to Champions League action on Tuesday night.

The Reds are gearing up for their group-stage opener against Bulgarian champions Ludogorets Razgrad at Anfield after a five-year absence from Europe’s elite club competition.

Kuyt scored 71 goals in 286 games for the Reds between 2006 and 2012 – and the Netherlands international is thrilled to see the Merseyside club back in the Champions League.

Kuyt posted the picture above on Instagram and wrote: “Yes!!! Liverpool is back in the Champions League tonight!!! Great memories and great memories to come!!! YNWA”

The Reds’ overall record against teams from Bulgaria is six wins and two losses.

Ludogorets have played in Liverpool once before, drawing 1-1 with Everton in a pre-season friendly behind closed doors at Goodison Park in August 2012.
