Fabio Borini has congratulated Mario Balotelli on his first Liverpool goal after a 2-1 victory over Ludogorets in the Champions League on Tuesday.
Balotelli appeared to have scored an 82nd-minute winner to the relief of the home supporters, before Paulos Dani Abalo silenced the Kop with a late equaliser.
However, the Bulgarian champions couldn’t see out a famous draw with the five-time European winners as goalkeeper Milan Borjan brought down Javier Manquillo to allow Steven Gerrard to net the winner.
And Borini, who was a second-half substitute against Ludogorets, was quick to praise his compatriot Balotelli after the 24-year-old’s first Reds goal.
“Great start!!! 3 points back in the Champions League! congrats to @mb459 for the first @liverpoolfc goal!! Andiamoooo,” Borini posted on Instagram.
Liverpool captain Gerrard heaped praise on Balotelli in his post-match interview after Italy international’s inaugural strike in a Reds shirt.
“You have to give Mario Balotelli credit, he is under the spotlight and everyone is waiting for that first goal,” Gerrard told ITV Sport.
“It didn’t go his way for long periods but the sign of a good goal-scorer is to keep going and it only takes once chance and he showed that tonight.
“But what is more important than the goal is his work-rate. Myself and the rest of the lads were waiting to see what he would give the team, and he ran his socks off. That is the biggest plus for me.”
