Jack Wilshere was all smiles as Arsenal trained ahead of their League Cup opener against Southampton on Tuesday night.

The Gunners host the Saints at Emirates Stadium looking to make it back-to-back wins after their 3-0 victory over Aston Villa in the Premier League on Saturday.

Midfielder Wilshere posted the picture above on his Instagram account and wrote: “Good session ahead of our Capital One Match….have good and bad memories of this competition, let’s make some more good ones! #AFC #Gooners.”

Wilshere’s post came shortly after Arsenal were rocked by the news that Mathieu Debuchy has been ruled out of action for three months following ankle surgery.

The right-back picked up the problem after landing awkwardly in the 2-2 draw with Manchester City earlier this month.

It had been hoped that the defender could return in six weeks but the France international now looks likely to be sidelined until the new year.
