Jose Enrique has expressed his delight to make his first Liverpool start in 11 months after helping the Reds seal a thrilling penalty shootout win against Middlesbrough in the League Cup.

The Spanish left-back was handed a starting berth for the Capital One Cup third-round clash after recovering from a niggling knee injury which cut his season short last term.

And Enrique, who scored a penalty in their 14-13 shootout victory over Boro, thanked the Liverpool fans for their support after successfully completing 120 minutes.

“Happy to start again after 11 months in an official match,” Enrique posted on Instagram.

“And of course even more happy because the team win and we still in the fight for the capital one this season.

“Thanks a lot for your support is been Amazing like always. Good night”

Jordan Rossiter had scored on his Liverpool debut in the 10th minute but Boro star Adam Reach levelled with 28 minutes remaining, resulting in extra-time on Merseyside.

Suso appeared to have sent Liverpool into the fourth round before a last-gasp spot-kick from Patrick Bamford secured a dramatic penalty shootout, which Liverpool eventually edged 14-13.
