Fabio Borini is drawing inspiration from Manchester United legend Cristiano Ronaldo as the Liverpool striker looks to earn a first-team place.

The Italy international came close to leaving the 18-time English champions in the summer transfer window amid interest from Queens Park Rangers and Sunderland.

However, Hoops manager Harry Redknapp hinted that Borini priced himself out of a move to the west London side, meaning the striker remains part of the Reds squad.

The former Roma forward scored seven goals in 32 Premier League appearances during a season-long loan at Sunderland last term, attempting to gain vital experience.

And Borini posted an inspirational Real Madrid story about the Portugal international as he aims to secure a starting spot at Liverpool.

Borini is facing competition from Mario Balotelli, Daniel Sturridge and Rickie Lambert for a starting place at Liverpool.
