Mamadou Sakho has revealed the joke he shared with Mario Balotelli which resulted in one of the more memorable photos from Liverpool’s summer tour of USA.

The France international was caught on camera enjoying a joke with Balotelli as the Liverpool centre-half and AC Milan striker featured in the International Champions Cup.

Brendan Rodgers’s side were 2-0 winners against the seven-time European champions, and Balotelli eventually joined Liverpool in a £16m move in the final week of the transfer window.

And Sakho, who moved to Anfield from Paris Saint-Germain last summer, admitted that he is enjoying even more banter with the Italy international since the striker’s switch.

“We had done some publicity together when I was still at PSG about three years ago, so we knew each other already back then,” Sakho told Liverpool’s website.

“We spoke to each other at the ground [Bank of America Stadium] and the picture of us is very nice – looking at our matching haircuts and everything. He took the mickey out of me saying: ‘So you speak English now?'”

Balotelli made his Liverpool debut at White Hart Lane as the Reds were emphatic 3-0 winners against Tottenham Hotspur.
