It is amazing what one victory can do to a team’s spirit as Lukas Podolski and Alexis Sanchez were all smiles at Arsenal training on Monday.

The north London side ended a four-game winless run, including a 2-0 loss to Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League, thanks to a 3-1 victory at Villa Park on Saturday.

Arsenal club-record signing Mesut Ozil answered his critics with a 32nd-minute strike before Danny Welbeck scored his first Arsenal goal since a £16m move from Manchester United.

Former Liverpool defender Aly Cissokho put the ball into his own net to cap a crazy six-minute period and hand Arsene Wenger’s side three points.

Although Podolski and Sanchez didn’t feature in the starting line-up in Birmingham, the Arsenal duo was in high spirits ahead of Gunners’s League Cup clash against Southampton.

“Me and Alexis training today…preparing for our Capital One Match against Southampton. Let’s go #Gooners #Poldi #aha #AFC #Training #Sanchez” Podolski posted on Instagram.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger explained his decision to leave Sanchez on the bench following the 3-0 win on Saturday.

“Sanchez was rested today and of course he was completely available,” Wenger said.
