Lukas Podolski revelled in Arsenal’s “great win” after the Gunners were 3-0 winners at Aston Villa.
The England international Danny Welbeck teed up Arsenal’s club-record signing Mesut Ozil for his first Premier League goal of the season in the 32nd minute against Aston Villa on Saturday.
Ozil returned the favour minutes later, as the Germany international fed Welbeck and the 23-year-old scored his first Arsenal goal since a £16m move to The Emirates on deadline day.
Aly Cissokho, who moved to Villa Park on a season-long loan from Valencia in the summer transfer window, put the ball past his own goalkeeper Brad Guzan to cement Arsenal’s win.
Podolski posted on Instagram: “Great win today !! Thanks fans for all the support – looking forward to the match on Tuesday!! Have a nice weekend, Poldi!! #AFC #EPL #Poldi #aha #RedArmy”
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger was similarly satisfied with Arsenal’s performance in Birmingham.
“It was the response we needed after Tuesday,” Wenger said.
“Aston Villa started quite well and they had one or two dangerous situations, but after that we were in control and we scored three goals in three minutes.
“Then in the second half it was a possession game, a controlled game, because they didn’t come out too much. Overall it’s still a convincing win where [Danny] Welbeck scored, [Mesut] Ozil scored, and that’s important as well.”
