Mesut Ozil was suited and booted as he watched on from the stands at Arsenal’s League Cup clash with Southampton on Tuesday night.

The Germany playmaker was rested by manager Arsene Wenger for the third-round match at Emirates Stadium, despite his impressive display in the 3-0 win at Aston Villa on Saturday.

Ozil scored one and set up another during the victory at Villa Park as he went some way to silencing the criticism aimed his way in recent weeks.

But the World Cup winner turned supporter on Tuesday night as he travelled to Emirates Stadium to watch on from the stands.

Ozil posted the picture of himself above on Instagram and wrote: “On my way to the arsenal game , Come on you gunners. #afc #mesutozil #mesutözil.”

Ozil joined Arsenal in a club-record £42.5m deal from Real Madrid last summer.
