Robin van Persie refused to be downbeat following the Netherlands’ defeat by Italy as he grabbed a coffee with Paul Afellay and Ibrahim Afellay.

The Manchester United striker played 80 minutes as Guus Hiddink’s side slumped to a 2-0 loss in Thursday night’s friendly.

Holland found themselves 2-0 behind after just 10 minutes as Daniele De Rossi scored a penalty after Bruno Martins Indi was sent off for fouling Simone Zaza, following Ciro Immobile’s early opener.

The Netherlands managed just one shot in the first half against Antonio Conte’s side in a poor display.

But Van Persie was all smiles as he posed for a picture before an airport coffee with Afellay and Afellay – and it appears that a macchiato is the striker’s coffee of choice.

Van Persie posted the picture above and wrote: “Quality coffee with my friends @paulverhaegh83 and welcome to my bro @ibrahimafellay on instagram this –> @ibrahimafellay is his only official instagram account”
