England suffered another humiliating one-day international loss as India eased to a nine-wicket victory at Edgbaston to win the five-match ODI series 3-0.

The hosts could only muster a total of 207 all out as under-fire captain Alastair Cook and fellow opener Alex Hales fell in quick succession in the fourth ODI.

The frustrating thing is that, every side I seem to play in for England, there’s a question about my place

India wasted no time chasing down their target as Ajinkya Rahane and Shikhar Dhawan helped the tourists seal victory with 117 balls to spare.

Cook was greeted with fresh questions about his ODI captaincy following the defeat, but the 29-year-old remained bullish about his role.

“At this precise moment, I’m still hungry to do it,” Cook told BBC Test Match Special. “If the management say they don’t want me, that’s a decision they make.”

Cook added: “The frustrating thing is that, every side I seem to play in for England, there’s a question about my place. That’s a hard place to work from.

“I went from 1-0 down to 3-1. It changes very quickly in sport. My credibility is not for me to comment on.”
