Mesut Ozil silenced his critics with a match-winning performance as Arsenal ended their four-game winless run with a 3-0 victory at Aston Villa.

The Germany international combined with £16m signing Danny Welbeck to break the deadlock at Villa Park in the 32nd minute.

The Arsenal combined again to create the visitors’s second two minutes later as Ozil teed up the England striker for his first Gunners goal.

A disastrous six-minute spell for Paul Lambert’s side was completed in the 36th minute when Aly Cissokho put the ball into his own net.

“I’m particularly pleased to get off the mark. It was a good team performance,” Welbeck told BBC Sport.

“We got behind them. We knew it would be difficult today. They had their chances but when we took our first one we looked in control of the game.

“I haven’t had as many training sessions as I ‘d like but I am starting to get to the players a lot better.”
