Paul Scholes has hailed Manchester United’s most recent recruits as “top quality” players.

The Red Devils signed Angel di Maria in a British record £57.9m deal from Real Madrid in the week leading up to the close of the summer transfer window.

United entered the market on deadline day, too, finalising a £14m move for Ajax defender Daley Blind before signing Monaco striker Radamel Falcao on loan in a deal worth a reported £10m.

And Scholes, who had been critical of United’s transfer policy during the off-season, lavished praise on the club’s new recruits as Louis van Gaal looks to register his first win as the Red Devils manager.

“The quality of players we’ve brought in now are top quality; Di Maria, Falcao. These are proper players,” Scholes told United’s website.

“We just have to find the way of getting them all in the same team, playing well and scoring goals, which we have struggled with a bit.

“Defensively, we haven’t been great. We have to sort that out and I’m sure we can be vying for the Champions League places.”
