Radamel Falcao has revealed that his transfer to Manchester almost didn’t happen after a dramatic deadline day.

The Red Devils announced that the Colombia international completed a loan move to United in the early hours of Tuesday morning after speculation surrounding his speculation.

The 28-year-old Monaco striker had been linked with a move to Arsenal and Manchester City in the days leading up to 1 September’s deadline, before United emerged as front-runners.

And Falcao, who scored 11 goals in 20 appearances for Monaco, lifted the lid on the stressful experience that he endured as his move was finalised.

“No one has the idea of the stress I experienced at the time,” Falcao said. “The transfer almost wasn’t achieved but thank God we had an additional hour and then it occurred.”

Falcao was one of seven summer arrivals at United after Daley Blind completed a £14m switch to Old Trafford from Ajax on deadline day too.

United manager Louis van Gaal also snapped up Argentina international Angel di Maria in a British record £59.7m deal from Real Madrid last week.

“The first impressions that I took made a great impact on me. Manchester United is a great institution that lacks nothing and I’m happy to have taken this step.”
