Patrick Kluivert believes Manchester United duo Radamel Falcao and Robin van Persie are capable of starting together up top.

Red Devils manager Louis van Gaal is facing a selection headache as he attempts to fit new signings Angel di Maria and Falcao into his side alongside Juan Mata, Wayne Rooney and Van Persie.

He has the confidence of the trainer and the new signing Falcao is also very important but it will be very easy to play both together up top

There have been suggestions that the United manager could play the Colombia international as a lone striker, shuffling Van Persie into a support role alongside United captain Rooney and Di Maria.

However, Kluivert, who worked as Van Gaal’s assistant at this summer’s World Cup, feels the 63-year-old coach will manage to find a way of accommodating Falcao and Van Persie in his starting line-up.

“He will manage to find a balance to his team that’s for sure but with so many great players in his team everyone has to underestimate themselves – the team is the most important thing,” Kluivert is quoted as saying by Manchester Evening News.

“Some players may prefer to play in the hole behind the strikers and between the midfield but I think Louis has got everything sorted out (in his mind). When he gets a win and then another, more will follow.

“If Robin (van Persie) is one hundred percent fit he’ll probably start because he has the confidence of the trainer and the new signing Falcao is also very important but it will be very easy to play both together up top.”
