Raheem Sterling has tipped Mario Balotelli to achieve “great things” at Liverpool.

The Italy international signed a long-term contract with the Reds last week after Liverpool agreed a £16m deal with AC Milan for the controversial striker.

The 24-year-old scored 20 goals in 54 Premier League appearances during a two-and-a-half year spell at Manchester City, winning the title in 2012.

And England international Sterling is confident that Balotelli can prove a hit at Liverpool after making his debut in a 3-0 victory at White Hart Lane.

“Luis will be missed, obviously. With 31 [league] goals in a season, anyone would miss him. He’s a massive loss, but the manager has brought in other players to fill the void,” Sterling told talkSPORT.

“I haven’t come across Mario too much, but he has the ability and the goalscoring ratio to achieve great things here. Obviously not everyone’s going to score 31 goals, so the plan is to chip in with more goals across the team.”

Sterling was named man-of-the-match as England beat Norway 1-0 at Wembley on Wednesday, winning the penalty which led to Wayne Rooney’s decisive spot-kick.
