‘Raheem Sterling stepping up and filling Luis Suarez’s void at Liverpool’
Former Hull City manager Phil Brown heaps praise on Liverpool forward Raheem Sterling
Phil Brown has praised Raheem Sterling for stepping up and filling Luis Suarez’s void in the early weeks of the Premier League season.
The 19-year-old produced a man-of-the-match performance as the England international broke the deadlock in a 3-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane on Sunday.
Ok, they’ve lost Luis Suarez at Liverpool, but Raheem Sterling has stepped up to the plate
Sterling is expected to help fill the void left by Suarez in Brendan Rodgers’s side after the Uruguay international joined Barcelona in a £75m deal this summer.
And former Hull City manager Brown credited Sterling for his ability to produce top performances despite the expectation on his shoulders.
“His domestic manager [Brendan Rodgers] needs to take a lot of credit for giving him his head in a system that clearly works for him,” Brown told Sky Sports News.
“Ok, they’ve lost Luis Suarez at Liverpool, but Raheem Sterling has stepped up to the plate in a Liverpool side that there is big expectancy of.
“Everyone is expecting Liverpool to win the title again or second place, certainly European football to come back to Liverpool next year.
“So there is big expectancy on his shoulders but he looks to be playing with a smile on his face.
“Roy Hodgson will be loving this kid is coming with a smile on his face, just let him play.”
