Robin van Persie is in the shape of his life, according to Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal.

The 31-year-old striker was limited to just 21 Premier League appearances for the Red Devils last season as he struggled with a series of injuries.

I think he is fitter than I’ve ever seen him before

However, Van Gaal now feels that the former Arsenal captain is the fittest he has ever seen him.

“I think that Robin van Persie is fitter than [he was] for the World Cup,” said Van Gaal. “He was injured before it but he fought to be there.

“Maybe you remember that I let him train for the first three weeks before he entered into a game. I think he is fitter than I’ve ever seen him before.”
