Jon Flanagan has been ruled out of action for “a few months” after undergoing surgery, Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has confirmed.

The full-back is yet to feature for the Merseyside outfit this season and Rodgers revealed that the 21-year-old is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Daniel Sturridge should hopefully be back training at some point next week

“Young Jon Flanagan, unfortunately, has just had an operation that will probably have him out for a few months – which is disappointing,” Rodgers told Liverpool’s website.

There was some good news on the injury front for Rodgers ahead of Saturday’s clash with West Ham United, with Martin Skrtel back available for selection, while Glen Johnson and Daniel Sturridge are both nearing their comebacks.

He added: “Martin Skrtel is back training with the team, which is great news for us. Glen Johnson should be back training over the course of the weekend.

“Daniel Sturridge should hopefully be back training at some point next week. Joe Allen is still out and he’ll be out for a few weeks yet.”
