Sir Alex Ferguson has described Manchester United’s spending on transfers this summer as “amazing”.

The Red Devils have shelled out almost £150m on new recruits under new boss Louis van Gaal, bringing in Luke Shaw, Marcos Rojo, Ander Herrera, Daley Blind, Angel Di Maria and Radamel Falcao.

The world is progressing, and transfer fees with it

United splashed out a British record fee of £59.7m to bring Di Maria to Old Trafford from Real Madrid.

But Ferguson says he is glad that he is no longer involved in the hectic world of transfer dealings.

“Certainly it’s amazing, the amount of money spent nowadays,” said Ferguson.

“My personal opinion is that it’s never going to change, the world is progressing, and transfer fees with it, and I don’t know if there will be an end to it. Fortunately, I’m not at the hub of it nowadays.”
