Sir Alex Ferguson regretted his failure to bring Aaron Ramsey to Manchester United before his switch to Arsenal, according to Wales assistant manager Osian Roberts.

Ramsey sealed a move to Emirates Stadium from Cardiff back in 2008 after he was also strongly linked with a transfer to Old Trafford.

And Roberts says former United boss Ferguson was disappointed to miss out on bringing the Wales international to the Red Devils before his switch to north London.

“He had a strong interest in how Aaron is doing because he was very close to signing him,” Roberts told the Daily Mirror.

“He probably looks at it now as one that he lost out on and got away from him.”

Ramsey has scored 19 goals in 132 games for Arsenal and helped Arsene Wenger’s side win the FA Cup last season.
