Tom Cleverley lifts lid on his ‘crazy’ Man United exit
Tom Cleverley says his move to Aston Villa from Manchester United was delayed because it was "out of his hands"
Tom Cleverley has revealed that his season-long loan move to Aston Villa from Manchester United was delayed because it was “out of his hands”.
The 25-year-old, who was also linked with Everton, joined the Villains on a temporary deal on transfer deadline day after being deemed surplus to requirements at Old Trafford.
“It was just a case of what was going to be the best deal for me and honestly it was more out of my hands than anything,” Cleverley is quoted as saying by BBC Sport.
“It’s a modern-day part of football. Agents are massively involved and sometimes they don’t act as responsibly as they should do. It’s a tough one, it was a crazy day.”
The midfielder admitted that it had been a difficult year at Old Trafford following David Moyes’ doomed spell in charge of the Red Devils.
“The last 12 months haven’t been easy,” said Cleverley. “When you’re at a big club like United and don’t win trophies it never is.
“I’ve got a lot of people to prove wrong and I’m excited by that. It’s probably made me have a tougher personality.”
