However, Tottenham’s fragile confidence with be tested against Arsenal in the north London derby at Emirates Stadium this weekend.

Despite a mixed start to the Premier League season under new manager Pochettino, Ardiles is confident that Spurs can secure a top-four spot.

“Yes. He’s the right man for the job,” Ardiles told talkSPORT.

“His ideas are very clear. He believes in putting a lot of pressure on the opposition, pressing as high as possible, recovering the ball quickly and then playing.

“Of course it’s not going to happen overnight. He’s got a big job on his hands and I just hope he gets given time.

“Tottenham have changed managers too many time, they need to stick with one.

“In Mauricio they have someone who has the right ideas. Hopefully he will do the job for us.”
