Usain Bolt tells Liverpool’s Mario Balotelli ‘to make mistakes’ v Man United
Manchester United fan Usain Bolt is happy to see Mario Balotelli back in England but warns the striker not score at Old Trafford
Usain Bolt and Mario Balotelli are known as two of sport’s more mischievous characters – and the Manchester United fan is hoping the striker will “make mistakes” when he faces his favourite club.
Bolt is one of the Red Devils’s most-famous supporters, and the Olympic great has even suggested that he could forge a career at the 20-time English champions thanks to his searing pace.
For me, we need to be back in the top four. Even if we don’t win the league we need to finish in the top four and secure Champions League football
Balotelli, who is a Puma ambassador alongside Bolt, sealed a return to the Premier League after completing a £16m switch to Liverpool from AC Milan last week.
The 24-year-old striker famously netted in a 6-1 win against United at Old Trafford in 2011 as the Italy international helped Manchester City win the Premier League title.
Perhaps with the striker’s best Premier League performance still fresh in his mind, Bolt admitted that he is hoping Balotelli will make “a few mistakes” when Liverpool face United at Old Trafford on 13 December.
“We were talking and I told him England is the best place [to play football] and when he plays against Manchester United, just make a few mistakes and we’ll be alright,” Bolt is quoted as saying by the Daily Mail.
Bolt also backed new United manager Louis van Gaal to transform the club’s ailing fortunes after signing Angel di Maria and Radamel Falcao during the summer transfer window.
“I think Van Gaal means business. It will be hard adapting to his new system but over time the team will improve, as long as we have a strong back three,” Bolt added.
“For me, we need to be back in the top four. Even if we don’t win the league we need to finish in the top four and secure Champions League football, then next season when the team has gelled, there is a better chance of them winning the league.”
