Aaron Ramsey is fast becoming Arsenal’s most influential player, but the Gunners midfielder hit what is surely one of the worst passes of the season so far.

Arsene Wenger’s side eased into a 3-0 lead at Villa Park before half-time courtesy of strikes from Mesut Ozil and Danny Welbeck and a fortuitous Aly Cissokho own goal.

With the win assured in the second half, the north London side could afford to take their foot off the pedal and see out three points against Paul Lambert’s men.

But 23-year-old Ramsey may have been too relaxed after producing a horrible miscued pass which forced one-geared Per Mertesacker to retreat to collect the loose ball.

It didn’t affect Wenger’s mood as the Gunners manager praised his side following their first win in four attempts.

“It was the response we needed after Tuesday,” Wenger said.

“Aston Villa started quite well and they had one or two dangerous situations, but after that we were in control and we scored three goals in three minutes.

“Then in the second half it was a possession game, a controlled game, because they didn’t come out too much. Overall it’s still a convincing win where [Danny] Welbeck scored, [Mesut] Ozil scored, and that’s important as well.”
