Not many Premier League footballers would take on Yaya Toure, so it is no surprise Chelsea forward Eden Hazard looked rather intimidated when the Manchester City midfielder playfully slapped his rival in The Etihad tunnel.
The experienced Ivory Coast international was caught on camera giving the 23-year-old Blues star a friendly clip around the ear as the Chelsea and City players trudged out for the second half at Eastlands with the clash goalless.
Hazard initially appeared shocked and was primed to push the City midfielder away, but it became apparent that Toure was merely joking with the former Lille man, especially as his City team-mates barely reacted to the midfielder’s antics.
On the pitch, former Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard scored a late equaliser against his former club to rescue a point, ensuring Jose Mourinho’s side stay just five points clear of the defending champions.
“It’s a really difficult one. I’d be unprofessional if I came on and didn’t do my job so I’m mixed with it,” Lampard told Sky Sports.
“I’m obviously pleased that the side I came on for got a draw. It’s come up, I’m a professional and I didn’t expect to come on and score. I’m stuck in the middle.
“The Chelsea fans were singing my name and it was an emotional day. It’s not how I expected to say goodbye to the Chelsea fans. I woke up this morning and didn’t know what I wanted from today so I’m glad it’s out of the way. I guess this a happy medium.”
