Wayne Rooney was quick to lavish praise on Manchester United’s summer signings after registering their first Premier League win of the season on Sunday.

The Red Devils were emphatic 4-0 winners against newly-promoted Queens Park Rangers as Louis van Gaal finally notched up his first competitive win since taking charge of United this summer.

British-record £59.7m signing Angel di Maria broke the deadlock in the first half before former Athletic Bilbao midfielder Ander Herrera double the home side’s lead in the 36th minute.

Rooney, who was named as the new club captain last month, sealed three points a minute before half-time, leaving Juan Mata to add gloss to the scoreline with his second goal of the season in the 58th minute.

And the 28-year-old United talisman praised Di Maria, Herrera and United debutants Daley Blind, Radamel Falcao and Marcos Rojo after a comfortable victory over Harry Redknapp’s side.

Rooney has scored two Premier League goals this season after netting a penalty against Swansea City as the Welsh side were surprise 2-1 winners on the opening day of the campaign.
