Wenger gives latest Arsenal injury update after Dortmund loss
Arsenal will assess the extent of Jack Wilshere's ankle problem ahead of Saturday's trip to Aston Villa
Arsenal will assess the extent of the ankle injury picked up by Jack Wilshere during Tuesday’s 2-0 defeat by Borussia Dortmund ahead of the Gunners’ trip to Aston Villa.
Wilshere, who has a history of ankle issues, picked up the problem during the Group D defeat but Wenger is hopeful that it is not a serious injury.
“Jack Wilshere has turned his ankle,” said Wenger, whose side travel to Villa Park in the Premier League on Saturday.
“It’s difficult to say how bad it is because I am a bit cautious, normally it’s not very bad but because of his history I’m a bit cautious.
“Apart from that no player I took off was injured.”
Mathieu Flamini, Yaya Sanogo, Mathieu Debuchy and Nacho Monreal all missed Tuesday’s Champions League opener due to injury.
Wenger accepted that Arsenal’s midfield let them down during the loss to the Bundesliga side.
“They were better and stronger than us in midfield, I agree with that,” he added. “But it’s very difficult on the night to go into any individual assessment of any players because as a team we were not at the requested level.”
