Yaya Sanogo took to Twitter to reveal his delight at Abou Diaby’s Arsenal comeback in the 2-1 League Cup defeat by Southampton on Tuesday night.

The French midfielder made his first start for the Gunners in 18 months after his long-term absence with a knee injury.

However, the 28-year-old, who played 67 minutes of the third-round clash at Emirates Stadium, was unable to prevent the north Londoners from slipping to defeat.

Sanogo wrote on Twitter: “Sad we have lost, but happy that my bro @AbouVDIABY made his come back!”

Alexis Sanchez’s stunning free-kick in the 14th minute opened the scoring for an Arsenal side featuring 10 changes from Saturday’s win over Aston Villa.

However, Southampton equalised six minutes later when Dusan Tadic scored a penalty, before Nathaniel Clyne netted the eventual winner five minutes before half-time.
