Alan Smith believes that Aaron Ramsey’s recent spell on the sidelines could help him rediscover his top form for Arsenal.

The Wales midfielder has not featured since picking up a hamstring injury during the 1-1 draw with Tottenham Hotspur at the end of September but is in line to make his return in the coming days.

Former Arsenal forward Smith feels that the rest could benefit the 23-year-old for the season ahead.

“It’s a boost,” Smith told Sky Sports News HQ. “Maybe that little rest will have done him good because at the start of the season he wasn’t the Aaron Ramsey of last term.

“He looked a little bit jaded and certainly didn’t hit top form so coming back into it he’ll hope that this is the beginning of his season for real.

“And they need him – a goal-scoring midfielder just to take the weight off those front lads.
