Alberto Moreno says he knows what to expect from Real Madrid when the Champions League holders line up at Anfield on Wednesday.

Liverpool are hoping to make amends for a 1-0 loss to Basel in their last European fixture and cement their claim for runners-up spot in Group B.

They’ve got some of the best players in the world. We have to start the game very alert and concentrated

And Moreno, who joined the Reds in a £12m deal from Sevilla in August, warned Brendan Rodgers’s side to be wary of Madrid’s devastating counter-attacks.

“I’m lucky enough to have played against Madrid for Sevilla,” Moreno told Liverpool’s website.

“We had a bit of a problem against them at the Santiago Bernabeu, where they scored seven times against us. However, things were different in Sevilla, where we beat them 2-1.

“The win brought a new perspective for Sevilla in the league that season. In the end, though, it wasn’t enough to get us a place in the Champions League. But I know what to expect. I know they can be lethal on the counter-attack as well as being very good defensively too.

“They’ve got some of the best players in the world. We have to start the game very alert and concentrated, with the ambition to win all three points. We’ll bear in mind that we’ll be playing against Real Madrid, but nothing is impossible.”
