Antonio Candreva has insisted that he never considered leaving Lazio this summer despite reported interest from the Premier League.

The 27-year-old was linked with a host of clubs after a string of impressive performances at the World Cup, particularly as Italy beat England.

Arsenal and Liverpool were linked with a move for the winger as Arsene Wenger and Brendan Rodgers looked to strengthen their defence.

But Candreva claimed that he never contemplated a potential move away from Lazio, going on to a sign a new deal after being named captain.

“I’ve always wanted to stay at Lazio. That’s what I said to my agents before all these rumours,” Candreva is quoted as saying.

“It’s true that several teams came in for me but I always wanted to re-sign with Lazio.”

Candreva, who has 12 Italy caps, has scored 21 goals in 87 Serie A appearances for Lazio.
