Manuel Pellegrini says he considers Arsenal to be Premier League title contenders alongside Chelsea and his Manchester City side.

The Citizens lost further ground on Premier League leaders Chelsea after a 2-1 defeat by West Ham United at Upton Park on Saturday.

Jose Mourinho’s men couldn’t fully capitalise, though, as Manchester United striker Robin van Persie scored an injury-time equaliser at Old Trafford yesterday.

Arsenal, meanwhile, moved to within nine points of the Blues thanks to a 2-0 victory over Sunderland as Alexis Sanchez netted twice.

And City manager Pellegrini vowed that the Citizens would continue to fight with Chelsea and Arsenal despite a disappointing start to their title defence.

“We have 87 points more (to play for) to try and continue adding more points to our team,” Pellegrini said.

“It is not only Chelsea, (but also) Arsenal, so we will see what they do in the future.

“At the final (game), the team that wins more points will be the champion.”
