Jack Wilshere admits that he is desperate to improve his goal-scoring record for Arsenal.

The 22-year-old midfielder has managed just five Premier League goals in 76 games for the north London club, with one of those strikes coming this season.

And the England international accepts that he must improve his goal-return if he is to ever be considered one of the world’s top midfielders.

“I’ve said before that my goal-scoring record has never been good enough and that I always want to add more goals,” Wilshere told Arsenal.com.

“You look at the top midfielders in the world like [Frank] Lampard and [Steven] Gerrard who were getting 15 or 20 goals a season back in their day.

“I’m not saying I can get that many because they were specialists at that, but I could definitely get into double figures.”
