Liverpool continued their struggles up front as the Reds were held to a goalless draw with Hull City at Anfield.

Brendan Rodgers kept faith with under-performing Mario Balotelli, and the Italy international wasted the home side’s best chance in stoppage-time.

Here is a selection of the best Twitter reaction from the professionals, past and present, in chronological order as the Tigers claimed a credible draw.

QPR midfielder Joey Barton (@Joey7Barton) is backing Liverpool’s struggling Italian striker to score: “You know I actually fancy Balotelli to score today. Tricky fixture for Liverpool but Hull’s 3 man back line could play into their hands.”

Former Liverpool midfielder David Thompson (@77thomo) reckons there is no shame drawing with the Tigers: “Hull are stronger and more organised this year and are going to upset a few more teams along the way!”

Hull midfielder Ahmed Elmohamady (@Elmo_27) hails his team-mates: “Another great game away, Anfield it’s always a tuff place but lads were class, great fans as usual”

Hull midfielder David Meyler (@DavidMeyler7) is happy with the draw: “Great point today at Anfield!”

Tigers captain Curtis Davies (@TheCurtisDavies) praises two of his team-mates in particular: “Big point today! Delighted with the clean sheet. Special mention for Eldin & Brady, both made game saving saves/blocks at the end! #HCAFC”

Liverpool legend Ian Rush (‏@Ian_Rush9) felt Rodgers’s side deserved more from the game: “Think we deserved 3 points today but at least we kept a clean sheet! @LFC”
