Arsenal moved to within two points of the top four after beating Sunderland 2-0 at the Stadium of Light.

Alexis Sanchez broke the deadlock in the first half when he intercepted Wes Brown’s poor back pass to finish past former Arsenal goalkeeper Vito Mannone.

The £35m summer signing scored his second of the game on the stroke of full-time, this time benefiting from a Mannone mistake.

Here is a selection of the best Twitter reaction from the professionals, past and present, in chronological order.

England legend Gary Lineker (@GaryLineker) is keen to point out the role Sunderland played in Sanchez’s goals: “Sanchez scores his 2nd for Arsenal, capitalising on 2 of the worst defensive cock-ups you’re ever likely to see.”

Celebrity Arsenal fan Piers Morgan (@piersmorgan) still can’t be happy with three points: “Not one Arsenal player would get in either of these teams, with possible exception of Alexis. #ElClasico”

Arsenal defender Calum Chambers (@CalumChambers95) is delighted with a rare shutout: “Good result and happy to get a clean sheet!! Thank you to all the travelling fans, get home safe.”

Finally, Gunners striker Lukas Podolski (@Podolski10) is thrilled to see Sanchez net a brace: “Hard earned 3 points today, happy for my Chilean brother scoring 2 goals. Fans were great again as always. #Poldi #aha #AFC #Fans #RedArmy”
