Chelsea legend hails Jose Mourinho’s ‘ready-made’ signings
Ray Wilkins points to the success of Cesc Fabregas at Chelsea
Ray Wilkins has praised Jose Mourinho’s ability to “ready-made” signings, pointing to the success of Cesc Fabregas.
The 27-year-old World Cup winner has hit the ground running at Stamford Bridge, scoring one goal and making seven assists in eight Premier League appearances.
What Jose does so cleverly is that he buys what is already proven – not potential
And former Chelsea assistant manager Wilkins talked up Mourinho’s knack of unearthing the perfect signing for his side.
“Take Cesc Fabregas,” Wilkins told the Daily Express. “He has been the perfect replacement in midfield for Frank Lampard. Why? Because he finishes like a forward, just like Frank did. He doesn’t panic when he gets a chance.
“What Jose does so cleverly is that he buys what is already proven – not potential.
“It was already known what Fabregas could do here. He’d been brilliant at Arsenal, but couldn’t get a game for Barcelona. So Jose brings him back for £30 million and he is an absolute revelation.
“Lots of clubs bring in players at 20, 21. They are good players – and potentially very good players. Mourinho buys THE player, ready-made.”
