James Wilson believes Danny Welbeck’s move to Arsenal has opened the door for the youngster at Manchester United.

The highly-rated 18-year-old has made a string of substitute appearances from the bench, most recently replacing Juan Mata for the final 23 minutes of the 1-1 draw with Chelsea on Sunday.

And Wilson reckons the departures of Mexico international Javier Hernandez and Welbeck have provided the England Under-19 striker a chance to impress new manager Louis van Gaal.

“It’s an important time for me,” Wilson told United’s website.

“Obviously with those two going – Chicha on loan and Danny getting a move to Arsenal – it’s given me a great opportunity.

“It’s going to be really important for me to get the minutes on the pitch.”

Wilson added that he is enjoying training alongside world-class team-mates, such as Radamel Falcao, Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney.

“It’s great to be in contention with such names in the world of football as theirs,” Wilson continued.

“Obviously with the competition in training and even in the games as well, if I can just get a few minutes here and there, then hopefully I can get my chance further down the line.”
