Dominic Solanke thanks Jose Mourinho after Chelsea bow
Dominic Solanke pays tribute to the Chelsea boss after making his first-team debut last week
Dominic Solanke has thanked Jose Mourinho for showing the faith in him to hand the teenager his first senior Chelsea appearance last week.
The 17-year-old came on as a second-half substitute in the 6-0 thrashing of Maribor and played the final 18 minutes of the Champions League group-stage clash.
And Solanke admits that he has already learned a lot from working with Mourinho.
It was amazing to have someone like Mourinho giving me advice. He has done so much already
“In football, you get a lot of ups and downs,” Solanke is quoted as saying by London 24.
“It was a lot more special to make my debut in the Champions League than it would have been coming on at Palace, especially playing at home in front of all these fans – it was amazing.
“The fans gave me a lot of support on Twitter after the Palace game and they want to see the youth come through and against Maribor I heard them screaming when I came on.
“I remember a little of bit of what Jose Mourinho was saying to me as I was waiting to come on. He was giving me last minute tips and told me to play free.
“It was amazing to have someone like Mourinho giving me advice. He has done so much already.
“It’s great that he has faith in me, at my age. It shows that there is opportunity there and working with him will only improve me.
“In football you must work hard. If you put the talent with the hard work, then anyone can fulfil their dreams.
“At a club like Chelsea it’s always going to be hard to get game time as there are so many world-class players here.
“You just have to keep working and hopefully my time will come.”
