Erik Lamela has attempted to explain his wonder goal during Tottenham Hotspur’s 5-1 victory over Asteras Tripolis.

The Argentina international hit what is commonly known as a ‘Rabona’ from 20 yards, with the midfielder’s effort flying into the top corner.

It broke the deadlock for the north London side before Harry Kane scored a hat-trick and Lamela bagged his second of the night in the 66th minute.

And the former Roma man put it down to instincts as Lamela continues to thrive under his compatriot and manager Mauricio Pochettino.

“I don’t know how to explain it,” Lamela told Tottenham’s website.

“It’s just a split second decision. I didn’t really think about the situation. I went towards the ball looking to score and I’m delighted because it finished in the back of the net!

“Goals like this are just an instinctive thing. I got lucky! Maybe my right foot is not very good so I had to use my left!

“Sometimes I try these things and I’m happy because I scored. I’m happy because the team won and we got the three points so we’re in a strong position to qualify from the group.”
