The 22-year-old’s best position has been a source of much debate among Arsenal and England supporters in the opening months of the season.
Wilshere produced back-to-back man of the match performances in a holding role for England’s wins against San Marino and Estonia over the weekend.
However, Arsene Wenger has utilised Wilshere in a more attacking position, deploying veteran midfielder Mikel Arteta to shield his Arsenal defence.
And the England international believes Wenger’s tactics means he is better suited to an advanced role for the north London side.
“With Arsenal we don’t play the diamond,” Wilshere is quoted as saying by Daily Mirror.
“It probably wouldn’t suit me as much.
“We play with one holding and two ahead with two wide men so it probably wouldn’t suit me as much, I probably can play that role but I enjoy playing a bit higher for Arsenal. For Arsenal, yeah, for England, no.”
Wilshere has scored one goal and made one assist in six Premier League appearances this season.
