Jan Vertonghen: Erik Lamela’s Spurs wonder goal best I’ve seen live
Erik Lamela's goal is '100 per cent the best ' Jan Vertonghen has seen live
Jan Vertonghen has described Erik Lamela’s wonder strike on Thursday as the best goal the Tottenham Hotspur defender has seen live.
The £30.75m signing broke the deadlock with a brilliant ‘Rabona’ goal, wrapping his left foot around his right to strike the ball from 20 yards.
Lamela scored his second of the night after the interval, while Harry Kane netted a hat-trick to seal a comfortable 5-1 win against Asteras Tripolis.
And Vertonghen, who played with the likes of Luis Suarez during his Ajax career, hailed the Argentina international’s incredible goal.
“I was stunned, for two minutes I was just thinking about that goal,” Vertonghen said.
“It is 100% the best goal I’ve seen live. I’ve seen a lot of YouTube clips but I’ve never seen a goal like it. I think the Puskas award is already his.”
Kane added: “It was crazy. He’s got that in his locker and it was great for him to do it on the big stage.”
And Lamela’s compatriot and manager Mauricio Pochettino couldn’t hide his appreciation for the midfielder’s opener.
“One time I scored a goal like that myself. You will find it on YouTube,” Pochettino said.
“I am happy for Erik and it helped us to get the three points.”
